Sustainable Agriculture in the Pacific Islands

Highlights of Western SARE Projects in Guam, Micronesia, Northern Mariana Islands and American Samoa

To meet the needs of the diverse communities of the Pacific Islands and address their challenges, Western SARE has invested close to $2.9 million in funding since 1994 to Guam, the Federated States of Micronesia, America Samoa, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. The funding has advanced projects like the ones you’ll read about in this report, such as combating plant disease in key crops, building direct links between farmers and chefs, and creating integrated vegetable and livestock systems. Western SARE is proud to be a partner with growers and agriculture leaders in the Pacific Islands as they boost their agricultural production and income to meet the food needs of their communities.
